    Stability Conditions for a Class of Nonlinear Systems with Delay

    This chapter presents an extension and offers a more comprehensive overview of our previous paper entitled “Stability conditions for a class of nonlinear time delay systems” published in “Nonlinear Dynamics and Systems Theory” journal. We first introduce a more complete approach of the nonlinear system stability for the single delay case. Then, we show the application of the obtained results to delayed Lur’e Postnikov systems. A state space representation of the class of system under consideration is used and a new transformation is carried out to represent the system, with delay, by an arrow form matrix. Taking advantage of this representation and applying the Kotelyanski lemma in combination with properties of M-matrices, some new sufficient stability conditions are determined. Finally, illustrative example is provided to show the easiness of using the given stability conditions

    Robust Synchronization of the Unified Chaotic System

    The paper investigates the synchronization problem of the unified chaotic system. The case of identical, but unknown master and slave unified chaotic systems is considered. Based on compound matrices formalism, a unified synchronization control scheme is proposed independently of the unknown system parameter. Simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of the presented scheme

    A New Methodology for Tuning PID‐Type Fuzzy Logic Controllers Scaling Factors Using Genetic Algorithm of a Discrete‐Time System

    In this chapter, a proportional‐integral derivative (PID)‐type fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is proposed for a discrete‐time system in order to track a desired trajectory generated using the flatness property. In order to improve the performance of the proposed controller, genetic algorithm (GA) based on minimizing the integral of the squared error (ISE) is used for tuning the input and output PID‐type FLC scaling factors online. The considered controller is applied to an electronic throttle valve (ETV). GA tuning shows a better and robust performance compared to Simulink design optimization (SDO) algorithm in terms of tracking a desired trajectory with disturbances rejection

    Handwriting Velocity Modeling by Artificial Neural Networks

    The handwriting is a physical demonstration of a complex cognitive process learnt by man since his childhood. People with disabilities or suffering from various neurological diseases are facing so many difficulties resulting from problems located at the muscle stimuli (EMG) or signals from the brain (EEG) and which arise at the stage of writing. The handwriting velocity of the same writer or different writers varies according to different criteria: age, attitude, mood, writing surface, etc. Therefore, it is interesting to reconstruct an experimental basis records taking, as primary reference, the writing speed for different writers which would allow studying the global system during handwriting process. This paper deals with a new approach of the handwriting system modeling based on the velocity criterion through the concepts of artificial neural networks, precisely the Radial Basis Functions (RBF) neural networks. The obtained simulation results show a satisfactory agreement between responses of the developed neural model and the experimental data for various letters and forms then the efficiency of the proposed approaches
